Downtown Lounge

(5 Ratings)
A-listers love this gayest straight bar/restaurant
The Downtown Lounge, in the heart of Portland's arts district, is akin to an upscale Hamburger Mary's, and nearly as gay. It's where Portlanders take a first date, celebrate birthdays, or simply stop in for "a" drink after work only to be pushed out the door five hours later. Drinks are generous, and the food is just plain good. Feeling fat? Try the lamb salad. Devil may care? Go for the fish and chips.

TOO LOUD, elbow room only, poor service, closes early

This place is popular, yes, but overrated. It's every man for himself mentality and clicky - watch out for undercooked meat, fish or pork. If you like a gay frat party atmosphere, you won't be disappointed. Just be on your toes and be prepared for stress, loudmouths and long waits. Friendly service, nice decor and decent Lounge Menu. The Downtown Lounge across the street, another one of Norm's restaurants, presents about eight dishes. These dishes are typically small for the price, very basic and limited. Go for drinks and beware, the bathrooms are not wheelchair accessible...watch your step on these narrow steps up. I avoid these places unless I'm dragged there.

A must do for eveyone.

Norms is the kind of place where everyone feels comfortable. The decor is modern. The only major drawback is the space is fairly small so the noise level can get a little out of control and there is usually a wait for lunch or dinner. The bartenders know how to pour and the drinks are large and fairly priced, in season the vodka lemonade is a must. The menu changes regularly however there are several core items that stick around. I recommend the BBQ chicken tacos. No trip to norms is complete without munching on their incredible fries, ask for a side of tartar sauce for dipping. The wait for a table is worth it here!
